The tattoo represents strength, according to New York-based tattoo artist BangBang, 23, who did the work at Rihanna’s Hollywood home on March 19.

“She has a necklace that I love that I saw about a year ago,” BangBang told PEOPLE. “I was like, ‘You should get a little gun tattooed on you.
